Who it's for
Our Shopify SEO services are for store owners who built on Shopify because it made selling easy, then found that organic traffic didn't follow. It suits new stores that want to set things up properly and established stores that have collected years of apps, theme edits and imported products.
We usually see some mix of these:
- Collections that are just product grids with a heading and no text, even though they target your most valuable searches.
- Duplicate product paths. Theme links point to collection-based product URLs instead of the canonical product URL.
- Tag and filter pages getting indexed and competing with the real collection pages.
- A slow theme. Large hero images, sliders, review widgets, chat bubbles and tracking scripts all loading on every page.
- Schema conflicts. The theme outputs one set of product markup, a reviews app adds another, and an SEO app adds a third.
- Variant confusion, with each color or size treated as a separate page or not described at all.
If you are choosing a Shopify SEO agency, look for one that works inside the theme rather than only filling in meta descriptions from the admin. That is where most of these issues live. If you sell on another platform, see our general ecommerce SEO services.
How we do it
SEO for Shopify has its own quirks, so we work through the store in a fixed order: speed and structure first, then pages, then content.
- 1
1. Audit the store and theme
We crawl the storefront the way a search engine does and compare it with Shopify's generated sitemap. We review your theme files, your installed apps, and the store's preferences, navigation and redirects. The result is a list of issues tied to where they live: a theme template, an app, a setting or a product record.
- 2
2. Speed up the theme
We run key templates (home, collection, product, cart) through page speed testing, which measures load performance and Core Web Vitals and points to the resources slowing each page down. Typical fixes include serving properly sized images through Shopify's image settings, lazy loading below-the-fold media, deferring non-essential scripts, and removing code left behind by apps you no longer use. Every change is made on a duplicate theme, measured again, and only then published with your approval.
Page speed testing - 3
3. Fix URLs and indexing
We update collection grids and menus so they link to canonical product URLs. We decide which tag pages, filtered collections and internal search pages should stay out of the index, and apply that through theme meta tags or the robots.txt.liquid template where appropriate. Redirects for renamed or deleted products are checked in Shopify's URL redirect settings so old links don't dead-end.
- 4
4. Optimize collections and products
Collection pages get a short, useful introduction, clear headings and title tags that match how buyers search. Product pages get distinct titles, cleaner handles for new products, meaningful image alt text and descriptions where original copy counts most. Our on-page checks compare each page's title, headings, content and other elements against its target keyword, so we can see what's missing before and after edits.
On-page checks - 5
5. Clean up product schema
We look at every source of structured data on your product pages. Schema validation shows what markup each template outputs and flags errors or duplicates. We then keep one complete, accurate set of Product and Offer markup, with price, availability, brand and identifiers, and remove the conflicting copies. Review markup is only kept when it comes from genuine customer reviews.
Schema validation - 6
6. Put content to work
Shopify's built-in blog is often empty or unrelated to what the store sells. We plan a small number of buying guides and comparison articles that link to your collections, and we tidy your pages (shipping, returns, sizing) so they answer the questions shoppers ask before they buy.
What you receive
You'll get a written Shopify audit at the start, grouped into theme, apps, URLs, pages and schema, with each item marked by priority and by who needs to act (us, you or your developer).
During the project you receive:
- Before and after speed results for your main templates
- A change log of every theme file, collection and product we edited
- A list of apps with our recommendation for each: keep, replace or remove
- Schema validation results after the cleanup
- A keyword map linking your target searches to specific collections and products
At the end, you get a short wrap-up covering what was completed, anything still waiting on you or an app vendor, and the next steps we'd suggest. The duplicate theme we worked on stays in your store, so you can see exactly what changed.

Isn't Shopify already good for SEO?
Shopify handles the basics well: it creates a sitemap, adds canonical tags to products, and lets you edit titles and meta descriptions. But themes, apps and store settings can undo a lot of that. Most of the problems we fix on Shopify are created by how a store was set up, not by the platform itself.
Why does my product appear under several different URLs?
Shopify can serve the same product at /products/name and at /collections/collection-name/products/name. The product's canonical tag points to the main version, but many themes still link to the collection version in grids and menus. That spreads internal links across duplicates, so we update the theme to link to the canonical URL.
Will you need access to my Shopify admin and theme code?
Yes, for most of the work. We ask for a staff or collaborator account with the permissions the job needs, and we always duplicate your live theme and make changes on the copy first. You review the changes before anything is published.
Should I remove apps to speed up my store?
Not blindly. Some apps earn their keep in sales. We measure which apps load code on which pages, flag the ones that are unused or duplicate another app, and tell you what each removal is likely to change. Uninstalling an app doesn't always remove its code from the theme, so we check for leftovers too.
Can you help with Shopify Markets or multiple languages?
We can review how translated or regional versions of your store are set up and whether search engines can tell them apart. Larger multi-country setups are scoped after a free review, since the work depends on how many markets and languages you run.
Do you write product descriptions?
Yes, for the products where original copy is most likely to help, such as best sellers and items with clear search demand. For big catalogs we usually improve collection pages and product templates first, because those changes reach every product at once.
Do I need a Shopify SEO app?
Not necessarily. Shopify already lets you edit titles, meta descriptions, handles and alt text, and many SEO apps duplicate features your theme has or add schema that clashes with it. If an app does something you genuinely need, such as bulk editing alt text across a large catalog, we'll recommend it. Otherwise we prefer fewer apps and cleaner theme code.
How soon will my rankings improve?
We can't give a date. Results depend on your store, your products and how competitive your niche is. Speed and indexing fixes tend to show in reports first; ranking changes on competitive terms take longer and aren't something anyone can promise.
