  • Mobile-first design with layouts written for readers and structured for search engines
  • Title tags, meta descriptions, headings and URLs set for every page at launch
  • Internal linking that connects services, locations and supporting pages
  • Schema markup for your business, services and FAQs
  • Speed work on images, code and fonts, tested before launch
  • Search Console and analytics set up, with the XML sitemap submitted
  • Redirects from old URLs if you are replacing an existing site

Who it's for

A hand-drawn website wireframe on paper

This is for businesses that need a website to bring in customers from search, not just to exist as an online business card. It suits you if one of these sounds familiar:

  • You are launching a new business and want the site built correctly the first time, instead of paying for a redesign when you realize nobody can find it.
  • Your current site looks fine but gets little traffic. Often the cause is structure: one "Services" page listing everything, no page for each city you serve, and headings that never mention what people actually type into Google.
  • You are adding services or areas and your site has no room for them without becoming a cluttered menu.
  • Your site was built on a template that is slow on phones and hard for search engines to read.

Service businesses such as contractors, clinics, law firms, home service companies and professional practices tend to benefit most, because their customers search for a specific service in a specific place. Each of those searches deserves its own page, and most small business sites don't have them.

If you mainly want an attractive, easy site for a local business and search is one priority among several, our small business website design service may be the better fit. SEO web design is the option when search visibility is the main reason you are building.

How we do it

The order matters. We plan for search first, then design, then build. Here is how a project runs.

  1. 1

    1. Research what your customers search for

We use keyword research tools to pull the searches related to your services, with their estimated volume and competition. We look for the phrases that signal a buyer, such as "emergency plumber near me" or "estate planning attorney in [city]", and separate them from informational searches that are better handled by a blog or guide later. We also look at who currently ranks for those terms, so we know what the competition's pages cover.

  2. 2

    2. Turn keywords into a page plan

Next we group the keywords by topic with topic clustering, which sorts related searches so we can see which ones belong on the same page and which need their own. This becomes your sitemap. A typical plan includes a home page, a page for each core service, location pages where they are justified, and supporting pages such as FAQs. We avoid thin city pages that repeat the same text with a different town name, because they rarely help and can hurt.

You approve the page plan before any design work begins.

    3. Design around the structure

Each page gets a layout that fits its purpose. Service pages lead with what you do and where, show proof you can back up, answer common questions and make calling or requesting a quote easy. We design for phones first, because that is where most local searches happen, then adapt for larger screens. Headings follow a logical order so both readers and search engines can scan them.

  4. 4

    4. Build it clean and fast

We build with lean code, compressed images, sensible font loading and no unnecessary plugins or scripts. We run page speed testing throughout the build, not just at the end, so problems are fixed while they are cheap to fix. We add schema markup for your business and services, set title tags and meta descriptions, write descriptive URLs and link related pages to each other.

  5. 5

    5. Launch without breaking anything

If you have an existing site, we map every old URL to the right new page and set up permanent redirects. We submit the XML sitemap in Google Search Console, check that pages are being indexed and confirm analytics are recording visits and form submissions. For a deeper look at the launch side, see our new website SEO service.

  6. 6

    6. Check in after launch

We watch Search Console for crawl errors and indexing problems in the weeks after launch and fix what comes up. Results from search take time and depend on your market, so we focus on making sure nothing technical is standing in the way.

What you receive

You get the finished website, plus the planning documents behind it, so you understand why it is built the way it is:

  • The keyword and page plan: a spreadsheet showing each page, the main keyword it targets, related terms and the search intent behind it.
  • The sitemap: a visual outline of the site structure and how pages link together.
  • Design files and the live site, reviewed and approved by you page by page.
  • A launch report: page speed test results for key pages, confirmation that schema validates, the redirect map if you replaced a site, and screenshots of Search Console and analytics set up.
  • Logins and ownership: your domain, hosting, Search Console and analytics accounts are in your name. We don't hold your site hostage.
  • A short handover call covering how to edit pages, add new content and read your basic analytics.

After launch, the keyword plan doubles as a roadmap. If you later add content or start a monthly SEO plan, it shows which pages to build next and which searches are still open.

Pricing: custom quote after a free review

SEO web design is quoted after a free review, because the price depends on how many pages the keyword plan calls for and whether we are replacing an existing site. The quote lists every page we will build, so you can see exactly what you are paying for.

What is the difference between SEO web design and regular web design?

Regular web design usually starts with how the site looks and adds SEO later, if at all. SEO web design starts with keyword research and decides which pages should exist, what each one targets and how they link together, and then designs around that plan. The site can still look great. The difference is that every page is built to answer a real search.

Can you promise my new site will rank on the first page?

No, and you should be wary of anyone who does. Rankings depend on your market, your competitors, your reviews and links, and how Google treats your industry. What we can do is remove the problems that hold a site back, such as missing pages, thin content, slow load times and poor structure, so the site has a fair chance to compete.

Do I need to write the content myself?

You don't have to. We can write the page copy from a short interview with you, or edit what you already have so it matches the keyword plan. Either way, you review and approve every page before launch. You know your business best, so your input on services and details matters.

Will web design and SEO be handled by the same team?

Yes. That is the point of this service. The people planning the keywords and page structure work with the people designing and building the site, so decisions about layout, headings and page count are made together rather than handed off.

I already have a site. Will I lose my current rankings?

Not if the move is handled carefully. Before we replace anything, we record which pages bring in search traffic and map each old URL to its new home with a permanent redirect. We keep strong pages and their content where it makes sense instead of rewriting everything from scratch.

What happens after launch?

We check indexing in Search Console, confirm redirects are working and fix anything that shows up in the first crawl. After that, you can keep the site as it is, or add ongoing SEO through one of our monthly plans if you want continued content and link work.
