Who it's for

Our website development services are for small businesses whose website needs to do more than display information. You may be a good fit if:

  • Your website and your business systems don't talk to each other. Leads arrive by email and someone retypes them into the CRM. Bookings are made by phone because the site can't show real availability.
  • Your site is held together with plugins. Every update breaks something, pages are slow and nobody is sure which plugin does what.
  • You need a feature a template can't handle, such as a quote calculator, a multi-step intake form, a resource library, a members' area or a service area checker.
  • A previous developer disappeared and left a site nobody else understands.
  • You are growing and need a site that can handle more pages, more locations and more people editing it.

Typical clients include multi-service contractors, clinics and practices with intake requirements, professional firms, franchises and local operators with specialized processes.

When you compare a website development company, the question worth asking is not just "can you build this?" but "will it still work, load quickly and rank in two years?" We build with that in mind. If what you need is mainly a good-looking local site with a few pages, our small business website design service is simpler and a better use of your money.

How we do it

  1. 1

    Technical review

We start by understanding what you have. Technology detection identifies the platform, frameworks, plugins, analytics and third-party scripts your current site uses. We combine that with a manual look at hosting, code quality and how the site is put together. This tells us what can be kept, what is causing problems and what the new build has to replace or connect to.

  2. 2

    Scoping

Next we talk through the workflows the site needs to support: how an enquiry should move from the form to the right person, what should happen after someone books, which data belongs in your CRM. We write this up as a build plan listing each feature, each integration and the platform we recommend, with reasons. You sign off on it before development starts, and it is what the quote is based on.

  3. 3

    Development

We build the site in a staging environment you can view at any point. Front-end code is written mobile-first, with accessible markup and a sensible heading structure. Forms are built to validate input, block spam and send submissions where they need to go, whether that is an inbox, a CRM, a spreadsheet or a scheduling tool. Integrations use official APIs or webhooks wherever possible, because unofficial workarounds tend to break.

  4. 4

    Performance and SEO

We run page speed testing on key templates during development and fix the causes of slow loading, such as heavy scripts, large images and render-blocking resources. Every page renders its main content in the HTML so search engines can read it, gets a unique title and meta description and uses clean URLs. We add schema where it applies. If the new site replaces an old one, we map old URLs to new ones and set up redirects, following the same process as our website migration SEO service.

    Testing and launch

Before launch we test forms end to end, check every integration with real test data, try the site on phones and desktop browsers, and confirm security settings and backups. We launch at a quiet time for your business, then monitor forms, integrations and Search Console closely afterward.

  6. 6

    Handover

We hand over accounts, the code repository and documentation, and walk your team through anything they will manage themselves.

What you receive

  • Technical review summary: what your current site runs on, what is working and what is causing problems.
  • Written build plan: features, integrations, platform choice and the reasons behind each decision.
  • Access to a staging site during development, so you can review progress as it happens.
  • The finished website, tested and launched, with all accounts in your name.
  • Integration and form test log: a record of each form and integration, what it does and confirmation it was tested.
  • Launch report with page speed test results for main templates, the redirect map where relevant and Search Console confirmation.
  • Developer documentation covering how the site is built, where the code lives and how integrations are configured.

After launch, you can keep the site in-house or add our website maintenance services for monthly updates, backups and monitoring.

Pricing: custom quote after a free review

Website development is always quoted after a free review, because the cost depends on the features and integrations involved. We scope the work in writing first, and the quote is tied to that scope.

When do I need custom development instead of a standard website?

When your site has to do something a theme or website builder can't do cleanly. Common examples are quote calculators, forms that send different requests to different people, a customer area, booking that connects to your scheduling software, or data syncing with your CRM. If you just need a few pages and a contact form, custom development is usually more than you need, and we will tell you so.

Which platforms and languages do you work with?

We choose the platform based on the project, not habit. For most small businesses that is WordPress, a static site framework, or Shopify for stores, with custom code where it is needed. The review looks at what you already use and whether it is worth keeping.

Can you connect the website to our CRM or booking software?

In most cases, yes, as long as the software offers an API, webhooks or an official integration. We confirm what is possible during the review before we quote, so you are not promised an integration that turns out to be unsupported.

How do you keep the site secure?

We keep the number of plugins and third-party scripts low, use SSL everywhere, protect forms from spam, give each person their own login with only the access they need and set up automatic backups stored away from the server. Security also needs ongoing updates, which our maintenance service covers if you want us to handle it.

Will a custom site still be good for SEO?

It should be better. Many custom builds hurt SEO by loading content with JavaScript that search engines struggle with, or by using messy URLs. We make sure every page ships its content in the HTML, has a proper title and headings, and can be crawled and indexed.

Do we own the code?

Yes. The code, content and accounts belong to you. We store the code in a repository you have access to and hand over the documentation, so you are never locked in to working with us.

Can you take over a site another developer built?

Often, yes. We start with a technical review to understand how it was built and what state it is in. Sometimes it makes sense to keep and improve it, and sometimes rebuilding costs less over time. We explain the trade-off either way.
