Who it's for

A designer sketching page layouts in a notebook

A website is not a finished product. Platforms release security patches, plugins and apps change, hosting settings drift, forms quietly stop sending and pages get slower as content is added. Most small business owners only notice when something visibly breaks, and by then a customer may have already given up.

Website maintenance services are for you if:

  • Nobody is responsible for your website since the person who built it moved on.
  • Your site runs on WordPress or WooCommerce and updates are either ignored or applied nervously in the hope nothing breaks.
  • You have had a scare, such as a hacked site, a warning in the browser or the site going down on a busy day.
  • You don't know whether your forms work, or you found out one had stopped sending weeks later.
  • You need small changes made regularly, such as new photos, updated hours or staff changes, and want someone reliable to do them.

It suits service businesses, clinics, professional firms, shops and online stores that depend on their site for enquiries or sales but don't have an in-house web person. If your site was built by us, maintenance is the natural next step. If it was built by someone else, we can take it on after a review.

Good website maintenance is mostly invisible. When it is working, nothing dramatic happens: the site stays online, loads quickly, sends every enquiry and keeps up with security fixes. The monthly report is how you see that the work is being done.

How we do it

  1. 1

    Onboarding review

When you join, we get access to your site, hosting and domain, and run a full technical site crawl. It checks every page for problems such as broken links, server errors, redirect issues, missing titles, duplicate pages and pages blocked from search engines. We also check platform and plugin versions, backups, security settings and hosting health. Anything urgent is fixed first, and anything larger is explained to you before we do it.

  2. 2

    Updates

Each month we apply platform, theme, plugin and app updates. Where your hosting supports it, we test them on a staging copy first, then apply them to the live site and check key pages afterward. Security updates are applied as soon as practical rather than waiting for the monthly cycle.

  3. 3

    Backups

We run scheduled backups of your files and database and store copies away from your web server, so a hosting failure doesn't take your backups with it. We test a restore periodically, because a backup that can't be restored is not really a backup.

  4. 4

    Security and uptime

We scan for malware and suspicious changes, limit login attempts, review user accounts and remove access that is no longer needed. Uptime monitoring checks the site around the clock and alerts us if it stops responding, so we can find the cause and act.

  5. 5

    Technical and speed checks

The technical site crawl runs again each month so new problems, such as a broken link on a page you edited or a page accidentally set to noindex, are caught early. We check speed on your key pages and address causes of slowdowns, like oversized new images or a heavy new plugin.

  6. 6

    Enquiry checks

We submit test entries on your forms and check that phone links work on mobile. It is a simple step that catches one of the most costly silent failures a small business site can have.

  7. 7

    Content edits

Send us small changes by email and we make them, then confirm when they are live.

  8. 8

    Reporting

With scheduled monthly reports, the technical health summary is generated and emailed automatically on the same day each month, so you don't have to remember to ask. We add our own notes on the updates, fixes and edits we made.

    Scheduled monthly reports

What you receive

  • An onboarding report after the first review, listing what we found, what we fixed straight away and anything that needs a separate decision.
  • A monthly maintenance report, delivered on a set schedule by email, covering:

    • updates applied and any issues found
    • backup status and the date of the latest restore test
    • security scan results
    • uptime for the month and any outages with their cause
    • technical audit findings and what we fixed
    • speed results for key pages
    • form and phone link test results
    • content edits completed
  • Replies within one business day to maintenance requests and questions, with urgent issues such as downtime handled as a priority.
  • Continued access and ownership: your logins, hosting and backups stay in your name.

If the reports point to deeper technical problems, our technical SEO services or website speed optimization can address them as separate projects.

Pricing: custom quote after a free review

Website maintenance is billed monthly and quoted after a free review, because the work depends on your platform, the number of plugins or apps, the size of the site and how many content edits you expect.

What does website maintenance include each month?

The core is updates, backups, security scanning, uptime monitoring and a technical check of the site. On top of that, we test your forms and phone links, check speed on key pages and handle small content edits you send us. Everything we did is listed in the monthly report.

Do you maintain sites you didn't build?

Yes. We start with an onboarding review to understand how the site is built, bring updates up to date safely and fix any urgent problems we find. If something needs more than routine maintenance, we tell you and quote it separately before doing it.

What happens if my site goes down or gets hacked?

Uptime monitoring alerts us when the site stops responding, and we investigate the cause, whether that is hosting, an expired certificate or a code error. If a site is compromised, we restore a clean backup, close the hole that was used and change credentials. We reply to urgent issues within one business day, and usually much sooner.

What counts as a small content edit?

Things like changing text, swapping photos, updating hours or prices, adding a team member or posting a short announcement. New pages, redesigns and new features are separate projects, and we quote those before starting.

Is website maintenance the same as SEO?

No, though they overlap. Maintenance keeps the site healthy, which prevents technical problems from hurting your search visibility. SEO is about earning more visibility through content, links and optimization. Many clients pair maintenance with one of our monthly SEO plans.

Which platforms do you support?

Mostly WordPress, WooCommerce, Shopify and static sites. For other platforms, we check during the free review whether we can support it properly before offering a plan.

Can I cancel?

Yes. Maintenance runs month to month after any agreed initial term, and if you leave, we make sure you have all logins and a recent backup of your site.

What access do you need from me?

An administrator login for the website, access to your hosting account and, ideally, access to your domain's DNS settings so we can fix certificate or email-related problems. We ask for our own user accounts rather than sharing yours, so access can be removed cleanly at any time. Your accounts stay in your name throughout.
