Who it's for

Two contractors checking a wall with a spirit level

Our website redesign services are for businesses that already have a site with some history, and want a better one without starting their search presence from zero.

You may need a redesign if:

  • The site looks dated and you worry it costs you trust with new customers.
  • It is slow or awkward on phones, and visitors leave before they find your number.
  • Your services have changed but the site still describes the business you ran years ago.
  • Navigation has grown messy as pages were added over time.
  • The platform is holding you back, with a theme that can't be updated or a builder you want to leave.

The businesses that need this most are the ones with something to lose: a site that already ranks for some searches, earns calls from Google or has years of links pointing at it. Those gains are tied to specific URLs and content. A redesign that ignores them can undo years of work in a single launch, and that is the most common and most avoidable mistake in web design.

If you are starting from scratch with no existing site, SEO web design is the better starting point. If you want to move platforms or domains without changing the design much, see website migration SEO.

How we do it

  1. 1

    1. Record what your current site earns

Before any design work, we use competitor traffic research to see which of your pages appear in search results, which keywords they rank for and roughly how much traffic each brings. We combine this with your analytics and Search Console data. The result is a clear list of the pages that matter for search and the ones that do little.

    2. Crawl and inventory every URL

We crawl the full site to list every URL, including old blog posts, PDFs, images and pages that aren't in the menu. Pages you forgot about sometimes have valuable links pointing at them. Each URL goes into a spreadsheet with its traffic, rankings and a decision: keep, improve, merge or retire.

  3. 3

    3. Plan the new structure

With that inventory, we design a cleaner site structure. Strong pages keep their place, and ideally their URL. Overlapping pages are merged. Missing pages, such as a dedicated page for a service that is currently buried in a list, are added. You approve the structure before we design.

  4. 4

    4. Redesign and rewrite

We design for clarity and speed: simple navigation, a visible phone number, clear calls to action on every service page and layouts that work on a phone. For pages that rank, we preserve the topics, headings and depth that earned those rankings while improving readability. Weaker pages are rewritten.

  5. 5

    5. Build the redirect map

Every old URL that changes is mapped to its most relevant new page with a permanent 301 redirect. We don't send everything to the home page, which throws away relevance. We then test the full map with redirect checks, which follow each redirect to its final destination and flags chains (one redirect pointing to another), loops and redirects that end in an error. We fix every issue before launch, and check any older redirects from previous redesigns at the same time.

    6. Launch and monitor

On launch day we switch the site over, test the redirects again on the live server, confirm the site is open to search engines, submit the new XML sitemap and request indexing of key pages. For the following weeks we watch Search Console for crawl errors and indexing changes and compare traffic to the pages that mattered most before. Results after launch depend on your market and competitors, but this is how we make sure the redesign itself doesn't cause a loss.

What you receive

  • Pre-redesign benchmark report: your ranking pages, their keywords and traffic, taken from competitor traffic research and Search Console, so you have a baseline to compare against.
  • URL inventory spreadsheet with a keep, improve, merge or retire decision for every URL.
  • New sitemap and design for your approval before the build.
  • The redesigned website, launched with all accounts in your name.
  • Redirect map listing every old URL and its new destination, plus the redirect check results showing no chains, loops or errors.
  • Launch checklist covering indexing, sitemap submission, analytics and forms.
  • Post-launch report after the monitoring period, comparing key pages and search visibility against the benchmark and listing anything we fixed.

Will a redesign hurt my Google rankings?

It can if URLs change without redirects, content that ranked is removed or the new site blocks search engines by mistake. Those are the common causes, and our process is built to avoid them. Some movement in rankings right after a launch is normal while Google recrawls the site. We monitor closely so any real problem is caught and fixed quickly.

Can I change my URLs during the redesign?

Yes, if there is a good reason, such as messy or outdated URLs. Every changed URL gets a permanent redirect to its closest new equivalent. If a URL is already clean and ranking, we usually keep it, because unnecessary changes add risk without much benefit.

Should I redesign or just fix my current site?

It depends on what is wrong. If the site is on a sound platform and the problems are speed, copy or a few pages, targeted fixes may be enough and cost less. If the design is dated, the platform is holding you back or the structure is confusing, a redesign makes more sense. The free review is where we give you our honest view.

Do you keep my existing content?

We keep content that performs and is still accurate. Pages that attract search traffic are usually improved rather than replaced, so we don't throw away what Google already values. Thin or outdated pages are rewritten, merged into stronger pages or retired with a redirect.

Can you redesign a site built by someone else, or on a different platform?

Yes. We regularly move sites between platforms as part of a redesign. The redirect and content process is the same whether the new site stays on your current platform or moves to a new one.

What happens if something goes wrong after launch?

We watch Search Console, analytics and redirect logs after launch. If a set of pages drops out of the index or a redirect is misbehaving, we find the cause and fix it. We also keep a copy of the old site so nothing is lost.

How involved do I need to be?

Mostly at the decision points. We need your input on services, priorities and what customers ask you about, then your approval on the page structure, the design and the final content. We handle the URL inventory, redirects and technical work, and we explain any page we recommend retiring before we do it.
