Who it's for

A hand-drawn website wireframe on paper

Ecommerce website design is for small businesses that sell, or want to sell, products online. That includes:

  • Retail shops adding online ordering alongside their physical store.
  • Makers and brands selling their own products direct to customers.
  • Wholesalers and distributors who want an online catalog and ordering.
  • Businesses on an older or awkward platform who want a store that is easier to manage.
  • Sellers who rely on marketplaces and want a store of their own they control.

Typical problems we fix: a checkout with too many steps, product pages with one blurry photo and a manufacturer's description, category pages that don't match how people shop, shipping costs that surprise customers at the last step, and stores so slow on phones that shoppers give up.

A store also has SEO problems a normal website doesn't. Filters and variants can create thousands of near-duplicate URLs. Products go out of stock and their pages vanish. Category pages have no text for search engines to understand. We deal with these during the build, because fixing them later is harder.

We also think about the people running the store day to day. Adding a product, changing a price, marking an item out of stock or setting up a sale should take minutes and shouldn't need a developer. We set up the admin with that in mind and train whoever will manage it.

If you already have a store and mainly want more search traffic, our ecommerce SEO services or Shopify SEO services are a better fit than a rebuild.

How we do it

  1. 1

    1. Choose the platform

We start by learning what you sell, how many products and variants you have, how you ship, who manages the store and which tools it needs to work with. From that, we recommend Shopify or WooCommerce and explain the trade-offs, including ongoing app and hosting costs and how much technical upkeep each requires.

  2. 2

    2. Plan the catalog around search

Before design, we plan collections and categories using the terms shoppers use, not just your internal product codes. This shapes the navigation and gives each category page a clear topic. We decide how filters and variants will work so they help shoppers without creating duplicate pages for search engines.

  3. 3

    3. Design the store

We design the pages that matter most for sales: the home page, collection pages, product pages, the cart and checkout. Product pages get room for good photos, clear pricing, variant selection, shipping information, returns information and reviews if you collect them. Everything is designed for phones first.

  4. 4

    4. Build and configure

We set up or import your catalog, configure payments, shipping zones and rates, tax settings, order notification emails and policy pages. We install only the apps or plugins the store needs, since each one adds weight and ongoing cost. Integrations with your email, accounting or inventory tools are connected and tested.

  5. 5

    5. Product SEO and schema

Each product and collection gets a descriptive title, a unique meta description, clean URLs and image alt text. We set canonical tags so variant and filter URLs point to the main page. We add structured data for products, offers and breadcrumbs and confirm it with schema validation, so Google can read price, availability and other details and the pages are eligible for rich results.

    6. Speed testing

Product and collection pages carry many images and scripts, so we check them with page speed testing and fix what slows them down: oversized photos, heavy apps, unused code and poorly loaded fonts. A store that responds quickly on a phone makes browsing and checkout easier.

    7. Test orders and launch

We place test orders with different products, shipping destinations and payment methods, check emails and inventory updates, and confirm analytics records purchases. If you are moving from an old store, we redirect old URLs to their new equivalents. Then we launch and monitor orders and Search Console closely.

Should I choose Shopify or WooCommerce?

Shopify suits most businesses that want a hosted store with less technical upkeep. WooCommerce suits businesses already on WordPress, or those that need unusual product setups or full control over hosting and code. We recommend one after learning about your products, your team and the other tools you use, and we explain why.

Can you move my existing store to a new platform?

Yes. We migrate products, collections, customers and, where the platforms allow, order history. We also redirect old product and category URLs so you keep the search visibility and links they have built up.

Do you write product descriptions?

We can. Many stores copy manufacturer descriptions, which means the same text appears on dozens of other sites. We can write unique descriptions for your main products and give you a template for the rest, or edit what you already have.

How do you handle shipping and sales tax?

We set up shipping zones, rates and rules based on how you actually ship, and configure the platform's tax settings or a tax app. We test orders to different locations before launch. You should confirm your tax obligations with your accountant, since we set up the tools rather than give tax advice.

What is product SEO?

It is the work that helps product and category pages show up in search: descriptive titles, unique descriptions, helpful image alt text, clean URLs, sensible category structure and schema that tells Google the price, availability and other product details. We handle this during the build so the store isn't launched with thin or duplicate pages.

Can you connect the store to my other tools?

Usually, yes. Common connections include email marketing, accounting, inventory systems, shipping label software and marketplaces. We confirm what each integration can do during the review before including it in the quote.

Will my store be ready to rank right away?

It will be technically ready, which is the part a build controls. Rankings then depend on competition, content and links, and new stores take time to build authority. Our ecommerce SEO service can carry on the work after launch if you want it.

Can shoppers leave product reviews?

Yes. Both Shopify and WooCommerce support product reviews, either built in or through a well-supported app. We set up review collection and display during the build, and we mark up genuine reviews correctly in the product schema. We never add sample or placeholder reviews, so the section starts empty until real customers write them.
